Black Chalice: Spoken Word Poem | Juneteenth Celebratory Protest | Black History| Black Lives Matter

We are living through a pivotal moment in history. Black people are fighting two pandemics, COVID-19 and racism. The United Nations even said, the United States has committed Human Rights violations against Black people with police brutality. During these times, taking care of our mental health and wellness is essential. It requires time and concerted efforts to practice joy. On Friday June 19, 2020 at 6:19pm in the heart of Madrid at Puerta del Sol, we celebrated Juneteenth to embrace joy and to honor our ancestors. Juneteenth is the annual holiday commemorating the day slavery ended. Who We Are: Juneteenth Twenty Twenty was founded by Erin Corine Johnson Simpson to support the #blacklivesmatter movement through music, poetry, reflection and more. I am the Juneteenth Twenty Twenty Programming Artistic Director. I thoughtfully curated a program filled with powerful artists. It was an honor to share the stage with them as a Spoken Word Artist. Friday was a space of healing for not only Black people but for our allies, all races, colors, and nationalities. In my Spoken Word Poem: Black Chalice I shared positive Black History to inspire, educate, and uplift. Please enjoy and comment below what your favorite line was. Filmed by Green & Ruby Photography
